On perception, meaning, and conscious choice

Artist Statement

Marina Davydova · MARY
I work as an artist-researcher.
My practice is concerned with restoring sensitivity to meaning in an age of informational, technological, and emotional overload. For me, art is not a profession but a means of navigating reality and inhabiting the experience of choice.
how can a person remain a creator
and make conscious choices
in a world of excessive stimuli
and manufactured meanings?
This question was not formulated after the fact —
it emerged from personal experience
and more than twenty years of work in IT,
designing complex systems
and process architectures.

My method is grounded in a simple principle:
form emerges from a question
lived through body, time,
and experience.
Meaning is not attached to the image —
it is sustained.
Public artistic expression
becomes an act of responsibility.

I work exclusively in analogue painting.
The multilayered structure of form is a deliberate choice,
reflecting the complexity of contemporary time.

The series Foundations,
The Spirit Whispers the Path,
Emotions, and Zodiac
form a unified research system,
with each part fulfilling its own function.

I regard art as a navigational tool
in an age of acceleration and uncertainty —

a way to return to the individual
the position of creator
within a concrete, lived life
where every choice matters.

The practice develops through a sequence of series,
forming a long-term inquiry into
the structure of choice
and responsibility.
