How questions become form

Research method

Marina Davydova · MARY
My artistic practice is structured as a research system in which each series performs its own function within the wider process.
I see contemporary culture as an environment in which the gap between form and meaning has become not only an artistic issue, but a social one. The development of marketing and neural networks has made it possible to rapidly attach almost any meaning to almost any form.
The speed of image production is growing faster
than the human capacity for discernment.
The speed of content production is increasing, while the human capacity for perception remains limited. Overload leads to exhausted attention and the gradual loss of the ability to distinguish meaning.

A person cannot consume endlessly — this limit is clear in the sphere of food. When the quantity of food exceeded the needs of the body, the need for conscious choice emerged. In the informational environment, an equivalent mechanism does not yet exist.

My practice is an attempt to restore sensitivity to meaning through slowing down and inhabiting form.
The method follows this logic:

question → lived experience → formation of image → public statement
Form does not illustrate an idea or serve it after the fact.
It emerges as the result of living through a question. Such correspondence cannot be simulated or accelerated.

The technological acceleration of contemporary life makes the discernment of meaning both more difficult and more necessary.

Resource art, the store, and the digital environment became part of an ongoing research observation into how images function within everyday social reality.

This experience confirmed the need for different rhythms of artistic presence and deepened my understanding that public artistic expression becomes an act of responsibility.

My practice views art as a navigational system in an age of acceleration — a way to restore the capacity to discern, endure, and make meaning before making a choice.

In my view, the capacity for discernment is becoming the essential skill of an age of acceleration.
